comparing antioxidant capacity and vitamin c values between umbilical cord and maternal blood plasma and those in newborns with hypoxia
نویسندگان
چکیده
objective oxygen intoxication plays an important role in the pathogenesis of some fetal diseases such as encephalopathy, ischemia& hypoxia. antioxidants can reduce oxidative damage in newborns. the object of this research was measuring total value of antioxidant and vitamin c in blood sample of pregnant women before delivery, and also in umbilical cord blood of their newborn, and repeating these measurements 48 hours after birth in newborns with hypoxia and controlling group. materials & methods the sample included 32 healthy pregnant women presented for delivery & also their newborns. the total values of antioxidant & vitamin c in plasma were measured by staining methods. results there was no statistical meaningful difference in total values of antioxidants & vitamin c in women's blood & their newborn's cord blood. also total values of antioxidant & vitamin c meaningfully increased in newborns with hypoxia after 48 hours. conclusion total values of antioxidant & vitamin c in blood plasma of newborn, increase in oxidative damage as a defense mechanism.

Hypoxia Preconditioning Promotes Survival And Clonogenic Capacity Of Human Umbilical Cord Blood Mesenchymal Stem Cells
Background: In recent decade, human umbilical cord blood derived mesenchymal stem cells (hUCB-MSCs) provide enormous potential for appropriate cell therapy, but they have limited growth potential and cease to proliferate due to cellular senescence, so providing a strategy for increasing the stem cell survival is necessary. Methods: In this investigation, MSCs characterized by flow cytome...

Background: Breast milk can be a source of toxic material, along with the transfer of nutrients needed for infant growth. This study was conducted to measure the level of lead in maternal and neonatal blood and breast milk in Tehran, Iran. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 150 mothers and their infants were studied. Samples of maternal blood, fetal umbilical cord blood, breast milk, ...
متن کاملcomparing mean hemoglobin levels of umbilical cord blood in neonates with maternal hemoglobin and delivery pattern
introduction hemoglobin (hb) levels in fetus increase with progression of pregnancy, reaching highest levels in life. hb serves as iron reserve in fetus and is needed for the infant to adapt with anemia. many factors can decrease hb levels at birth and lead to accelerated physiological anemia. hence, the infant would require earlier administration of iron drops. identification of these factors ...

Comparison of Maternal Serum and Umbilical Cord Blood Leptin Level in IUGR Neonates
Background: Gestational weight gain is an impressive factor in the fetal outcome. Intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) is one of the most important problems during fetal period that may lead to many perinatal and long-term complications and growing neonatal morbidities and mortalities. The aim of the study was to ascertain the relationship between umbilical cord blood leptin concentration and...
متن کاملNeuronal Cell Reconstruction with Umbilical Cord Blood Cells in the Brain Hypoxia-Ischemia
Background: Brain hypoxia-ischemia is a human neonatal injury that is considered a candidate for stem cell therapy. Methods: The possible therapeutic potential of human umbilical cord blood (HUCB) stem cells was evaluated in 14-day-old rats subjected to the right common carotid occlusion, a model of neonatal brain hypoxia-ischemia. Seven days after hypoxia-ischemia, rats received either saline ...
